Mounting Instructions
Please remember: Your K-TAG will not work effectively unless it is properly mounted. Improperly mounted K-TAGs inconvenience you as well as the driver behind you. If you have questions, please call the Kansas Turnpike Authority at 1-800-873-5824.

It is best to mount the K-TAG in the center of the windshield so that the rearview mirror hides the K-TAG from the driver's view. The K-TAG should be at least one inch away from any metal (rearview mirror mounting post, the edge of the windshield, etc.)

Follow the mounting instructions provided with your tag.

External Bolt Mounting
If you are mounting your K-TAG on the front license plate holder of your vehicle:
1. Position the tag so that the holes in the tag baseplates correspond to the top holes in the license place area on the front bumper of the vehicle.
2. Insert bolts through the tag baseplate and the holes in the upper portion of the vehicle license plate area.
3. Tighten bolts with a wrench to secure tag to the vehicle.

External Bolt Mounting (with special mounting plate)
If you have a Chevrolet Venture minivan (1997-1999), Chevrolet Lumina minivan (1999 or older), Pontiac Trans Sport Minivan (1999 or older), or the Oldsmobile Silouette minivan (1999 or older), you will receive an external K-TAG that is already mounted on a plexiglass/plastic mounting plate and two extra mounting bolts. Please follow these instructions to mount this plate on your minivan.

In the front of these mininvans, between the hood and the windshield, there is a plastic air ventilation grill.

Remove the two thin bolts from the center of the plastic grill.

Position the plate so that the holes in the plate, match the holes in the ventilation grill.

Insert the bolts provided, through the mounting plate into the ventilation grill.

Tighten with a phillips-head screw driver to secure plate and K-TAG to vehicle.

Vehicle Classification
Vehicles on the Kansas Turnpike are charged by axles rather than weight or type. To find the classification of your vehicle, count the number of axles. Refer to the chart below for help in identifying your vehicle.

Suggestions for Using K-TAG
Please do...
Follow the mounting instructions that came with your K-TAG. You must mount your tag for it to properly function. If your tag is not mounted and your vehicle is struck, you could be responsible for all damages.

Call 1-800-873-5824, view the web site at http://ksturnpike.com or e-mail us at ktag@ksturnpike.com if you have any questions.

Be alert to the other vehicles around the plaza and be cautious when making turning or merging movements.

If you return your external or first generation tag(s) (non-sticker) to KTA for any reason, please clean tag(s) before returning.

Please don’t...
...hold the tag in your hand or attempt to use the tag any way other than instructed. This may result in a maximum fare to your account.

...exceed 20 mph through the dedicated lane and 10 mph through the mixed-use lanes.

...follow too closely. The vehicle in front of you may not have a tag. Maintain a following distance that will allow you to stop at a reasonable distance if the vehicle in front of you comes to a complete stop.

...write or mark on external or first generation tags. If you need to identify your transponder, write the information on a piece of tape and place the tape on the tag. The tape can be easily removed if the tag needs to be returned to KTA.

Lost/Stolen tags
Report lost or stolen tags to the KTA at once by phone, fax, mail, or e-mail. Until we are notified of the lost tag, you will be responsible for the tolls incurred. The charge for a lost/stolen or damaged tag is $34.00.

Invalid tag
If the gate does not open, wait for instructions from the toll collector. Do not get out of your vehicle and walk across the lane.

Overheight vehicles
Attention large vehicles — if you see a flashing red light as you enter, stop on the shoulder and wait for instructions from a Turnpike employee. You may be overheight.
If you hit a gate, pull over out of traffic and wait for further instructions from a Turnpike employee.

Troubleshooting
If you experience any difficulty when you use your new tag:
1. Ensure that your tag is mounted properly for your vehicle.
2. Check for a metal oxide windshield
3. Call a customer service representative for assistance

How to Read your Statement
Your statement, whether online or printed and mailed, contains four important sections.

First, your address and account number are in the top part of the statement. Please make sure to keep your contact information, including mailing address and phone numbers, up to date. This is important even if you view your statement online.

The second section lists all of your toll charges, fees, and payments for the month. The information here includes the Date, and a column for the Description or Tag Number used for the trip. If the line lists a toll charge, the entry plaza, exit plaza, and class are listed. Fare charts for class 2 and class 5, including listings of plaza numbers and names, are provided on the back of statements that are printed and mailed. There is a complete listing of fare tables for all classes, as well as a chart displaying the various vehicle classifications, which can be accessed online at ksturnpike.com.

The last column will have a two-character explanation code for any adjustments that have been made to your account. Any adjustment codes are explained at the very bottom of the statement along with any special messages that you need to be aware of. This information is highlighted in yellow. Please review the bottom of the statement every month.

Finally, on the last page of the statement, there is a summary of your activity for the month:

  Quantity Amount
Beginning Balance
19.47
CR
Toll Charges
9
24.50
Discounts
9
2.45
CR
Tag Fee
2
2.00
Payments
40.00
CR
Adjustments
.00
ENDING BALANCE
35.42
CR
TOTAL AMOUNT DUE
.00

A CR after a balance means that your account has a prepaid (credit) balance. Any payments are also listed as credits to your account and will be listed with a CR after them. If your ending balance shows a CR, your account is prepaid. If any amount is due, it will be listed at the bottom of this section.

Receipts/Account Information
K-TAG customers do not receive individual trip receipts because the transaction is handled electronically. Your statement and your online account information is your receipt.
However, there are three ways for K-TAG customers to get their account information:
1. Online at www.ksturnpike.com
2. Over the phone (last trip and account balance)
3. In the mail*
* There is a 50 cent per statement fee for printed, mailed statements.

1-800-873-5824 is available to you for:
- Monitoring your account balance.
- Checking on your last payment.
- Reporting problems with the K-TAG system.
- Reporting lost or stolen tags.
- Requesting additional tags.

If, when you approach the plaza, the dedicated K-TAG lane is closed, please pay close attention to the attendant in the mixed-mode lane. The KTA closes dedicated lanes when there is an emergency to help alert K-TAG customers of problems they may encounter on the roadway (i.e.: inclement weather, accidents, etc.).
