K-TAG Frequently Asked Questions
Still need help deciding which program is right for you? Or maybe you've got a K-TAG but need some answers! Click on a question below to see the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
New to K-TAG?
How do I get a K-TAG?
The best way to open a K-TAG account is to apply online. If you'd rather print an application to mail or fax it to KTA, download the commercial or individual account application as a PDF! Your tags will be mailed to you as soon as your application is processed.
If you want to add a tag to an existing account, contact a customer service representative by e-mail or phone at 1-800-873-5824.
You can also purchase a K-TAG at Walgreens drugstores near the Turnpike, Dillons stores throughout Kansas and AAA offices in Topeka, Wichita, Lawrence, Manhattan and Kansas City!
Am I required to provide a Social Security Number?
No. A Social Security Number is not required to use a K-TAG. Although it can be useful in identifying your account and assisting with any credit checks that may be necessary, providing an SSN is not a requirement. However, since the MyK-TAG program is backed with a credit card and K-TAG Classic accounts are prepaid most K-TAG users will never need to provide this type of information. If the KTA extends credit to you, this and other information will be required to complete credit checks.
I completed a printed application. Where do I send it now?
Mail it to us at the address on the application, fax it to us at 316-651-0864 or drop it off at any tollbooth. If you choose to use the K-TAG Classic program, please send $40 to start your account. If you choose the MyK-TAG program, you need to include your payment card information on the application. Our mailing address is Kansas Turnpike Authority, PO Box 780007, Wichita KS 67278.
Can I pay for my account automatically with a payment card?
YES! You can sign up for automatic account replenishment for K-TAG Classic and you must keep a payment card on file for MyK-TAG.
Can I open my account over the phone?
We require an acknowledgement -- either through a signature on a printed form or by a field on the online application -- of the rules and guidelines of the K-TAG program before tags can be issued to a customer. For that reason, accounts cannot be opened over the phone. You may, however, apply online now.
Will a K-TAG work in my vehicle?
Some late model vehicles are equipped with special windshield features that contain metal in the glass. These features prevent our K-TAG transponders from being read. If your vehicle is equipped with this feature and you experience tag performance problems, you may need to obtain an exterior mounted tag. Some of the vehicles that we know have difficulties with windshield-mounted tags include Pontiac Transport, Oldsmobile Silhouette, and Chevy Lumina vans. Sticker tags must be mounted to glass windshields and therefore will not work on motorcycles.
How much does K-TAG cost?
In addition to your tolls, K-TAG Classic customers are charged $1.00 per month per tag and receive a 10% discount as long as they maintain a prepaid balance in their account.
MyK-TAG customers purchase the tag(s) for $15.00 each and receive a $10 toll credit, making the cost of the tag just $5. Tolls are charged monthly to the payment card on file. Shipping & handling charges apply for tags purchased online. No monthly fees apply for the MyK-TAG accounts.
All customers can view statements online or via e-mail for free. Printed statements in the mail for all plans cost an additional $.50 per month.
Already a K-TAG Customer?
I have an older K-TAG. Do I still save 15% over cash tolls?
Yes. All K-TAG customers, regardless of which style of tag they use, will pay approximately 15% less than a cash customer after Oct. 1, 2009.
How do I add another tag onto an existing account?
Call or e-mail a customer service representative to add a tag to your K-TAG account. Depending on the plan you use, your tag may involve new monthly fees or cost $15 per tag. You can also purchase a new tag at any of our retail partners and add it to your account by logging in to your account information.
Who do I make my payments to?
Make checks payable to: KANSAS TURNPIKE AUTHORITY and mail to PO Box 780007, Wichita, KS 67278.
How can I switch to a different K-TAG program?
To change your account type, you will need to print and complete this Transfer Form. A $5 transfer fee will be charged for customers moving from the K-TAG Classic program into the MyK-TAG program. When you are finished, please mail the form to:
Kansas Turnpike Authority
Attn: K-TAG
PO Box 780007
Wichita, KS 67278-0007
How do I mount my K-TAG
Your K-TAG came with a Quick Start Guide to get your on the road quickly. If you can't find it, you can access some of the same information on our K-TAG User Guide page.
Can I get copies of older statements?
Your online account information stores statements for up to one year. You can access that information for free, anytime of the day or night. If you need copies of statements older than one year, contact our K-TAG Customer Service Representatives at 1-800-873-5824. There is a $1.50 per page fee for statements to be mailed or faxed.
